Chestnuts
•
Have you ever walked down a Manhattan street in November and smelled chestnuts roasting in a vendor's cart? Have you bought a warm bag of them and slowly strolled, peeling shells from the hot nuts as you went, popping the meats into your mouth?

Lace Murex

Chicoreus dilectus,
Elaborate tiny shell
Of gray, pink and white
Like blushing ashes
In the palm of my hand.
Beach treasure,
Remnant of my childhood
The life that made you
Is long gone
An empty shell
In the palm of my hand.

November Sunset Remembered
•
Gripping the wheel, flying up the road by the reservoir,
The usual urgent endless rush of vehicles,
Containing people desperate to touch home base.
An incredible fleeting beauty envelopes all,
Completely overlooked,
As they lock their attention on the red tail lights ahead.
